Today you are one step closer to a new you

Founder

Hi! I’m Dr. Yolanda Gonzalez PsyD, LMHC

Today you are one step closer to a new you – a you, who will feel empowered and embark on a positive journey towards growth and well-being. With a Doctoral of Psychology degree, Dual Masters in Mental Health & Marital, Couple & Family Therapy/Counseling as well as my Masters in Clinical Psychology, I have been trained in various efficacious evidence based treatments to effectively help you cope with your daily life stressors. After more than decade providing mental health services in miami, first as a student and now as a practitioner, I have found that those with a genuine desire for mental health services sometimes simply don’t have the time to receive them. More worrisome still, those that mourn deeply or suffer from depression tend to lack the very motivation necessary to physically seek out services. My team and I specialize in perinatal, postnatal, and postpartum depression, and in grief counseling for all stages of life. We’ll come to you – in person, over the phone, or online.

Mental health services are more important now than ever before. There is a general need for more counselors, psychologists, social workers, and psychiatrists; the demand for these professionals will continue to increase because they offer services that are so valuable.

Public mental health services are more important today than they have ever been, in many respects. In fact, these services are critical in our society today and will continue to be in the future. It’s important to realize that those in our society with mental health issues will continue to affect the people in their lives and contribute to our communities.

These services can also be provided by organizations outside of the mental health field. To some, it may seem odd to think of a private organization providing mental health services. They may think that private organizations don’t have the right knowledge and expertise to offer care to those in need.

This couldn’t be further from the truth. Private organizations do in fact have the knowledge and expertise needed to provide quality care to those who need it.

A public mental health service can be found but what about those who suffer from a mental illness? These people are often overlooked. Often, they are the ones that need the most help.

Sometimes, an individual suffering from a mental illness is misdiagnosed and receives the wrong treatment for the disorder. This leads to additional care being necessary or other medication being prescribed.

To help address this issue, a mental health professional must evaluate the individual’s treatment for the disorder and then perform a psychological evaluation. These evaluations are especially critical when the problem has become severe. Since these evaluations are so important, it is important to understand what they are.

The first step is to complete a psychoeducational assessment. This assessment consists of a thorough review of the individual’s life, interests, family background, and employment history. Through this evaluation, the individual’s family and friends can also be informed.

Once the psychoeducational assessment is completed, the individual is sent to a full psychoeducational evaluation. This evaluation includes observation, therapy, and interview.

This process takes place in the psychotherapeutic office where there is a psychoeducational test to assess the problem and the person’s level of communication with his or her therapist. The test is based on a procedure known as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). Here, the psychotherapist evaluates the individual’s current level of functioning, coping skills, and goals in order to develop treatment.

The next step is the full psychological evaluation. Here, the individual’s behavior, family, friends, and past family history are all considered to develop the profile of the individual and a plan of treatment is developed.

This evaluation should not only be done in the presence of the potential psychologist. It should also be done in front of a counselor, or a supervisor who is well-versed with psychotherapy, as well as a psychologist who is qualified to conduct a proper psychoeducational evaluation. It is not uncommon for some prospective therapists to not even provide the reassurance that they can conduct the evaluation and allow other therapists to do the job instead.

A psychoeducational evaluation should include several aspects of the psychology. First, you will want to ask the therapist if he or she has read any books related to psychotherapy, and whether they can teach you about psychotherapy. Next, you will want to see if they are certified by any professional body. And lastly, you should ask them to discuss all of your concerns and determine how well they can help you. You will then want to determine whether they are experienced in working with children. This will ensure that you get the best care possible.

Once you have taken the first step toward improving your therapeutic relationship, it is vital that you continue to monitor it from time to time. If you have any concerns, you can contact your therapist or call the nearest office of your chosen therapist.

When the analysis is complete, the person is sent off to a full program that will provide mental health services. At this point, the individual will likely be admitted to a mental health facility or a psychiatrist’s office. They will spend their days learning to manage the disorder and their own lives. Make sure to use the search phrase “psychoeducational testing near me” when looking for a mental health services provider in your area.
